A Luton takeaway has been prosecuted by the council for poor hygiene, cleaning and structural standards, including a serious cockroach infestation on the premises.

The issues were discovered during a routine hygiene inspection by a food a safety officer in September 2018 and the business was closed immediately using hygiene emergency prohibition powers.

The business was inspected again in January 2019 when poor standards were found again, including filthy, damaged equipment and poor structural repair. The business was again found to be infested with cockroaches and was once again ordered to close.

Y&A Brothers Ltd and Mr Faisal Zaieb of Saxon Road pleaded guilty to food hygiene offences at Luton Magistrates Court Monday, November 4, 2019.

Y&A Brothers Ltd was fined £12,000 and ordered to pay costs of £1,060 at Luton Magistrates court on Monday, December 9, 2019.

Mr Zaieb was sentenced at Luton Crown Court on Friday, January 24, 2020 to nine months custody, suspended for 12 months, with 150 hours unpaid work. Mr Zaied was also ordered to pay costs of £1,500.
