Usually at this time of year a wave of competition results are eagerly awaited at Bedford College. However, this year most events have suffered delays and postponements, with many of those summer spotlights being lost.

However, adapting to an online method of working, the 2020 YCN (You Can Now) International Designs Awards have taken place, with Bedford College being among the winners.

Three HND Graphic Design students have come through working as a creative team, online from their homes.

Amy Robins, Giorgia Jacenko and Jack Henson were selected by judges to create an entry based on a live brief from the Bombay restaurant chain Dishoom. This required them to devise a new customer loyalty scheme.

Their solution, ‘Ekata’, (translated from Hindi as unity), offers a scheme centred around the collecting and trading of traditional Indian beads.

Advanced Practitioner Jeffrey Tribe, who has guided students for 25 years on high profile awards and careers in graphic design, said: “In this adverse climate when the industry is going through so many difficulties, this win validates Bedford College’s ability to maintain the highest of standards in this highly competitive industry.

“Despite the unparalleled market conditions, I have recently received many reports of our students opening up and locating opportunities for creative work, which is very reassuring.”

If you are interested in a career in the arts, courses begin at the age of 16 and it is now possible to progress through to a full BA degree at the Bedford campus in some subjects.

Equally, if you are now looking for that career change, the College offers a wide range of courses and study options for all ages and levels of experience.
