Despite all gnashing of teeth and whining about the NHS not getting on with their ‘normal’ work because of Covid – here’s living proof that the situation is probably a little over-egged.

Meet 96-year-old, Eddie Powell of Milton Ernest, he had his hip replaced in Bedford’s new South Wing unit, ‘The Bridges’, at the beginning of September.

Eddie is seen here venturing out for the first time on his walking frame on Sunday morning, September 27, 2020.

He spent six days in Bedford Hospital after his hip replacement operation, then another three weeks convalescing at the Airedale Nursing home in Park Avenue, Bedford.

Commenting on his time in the nursing home, Eddie said: “It was brilliant, i would recommend it to anyone.”

Eddie a Milton Ernest resident for over 70 years having moved to the village after the end of WWII.

He married a Milton girl during the war and initially the couple lived with the bride’s mother in the village, before eventually moving to the last house on Radwell Road, Milton Ernest.

Before retirement Eddie was a marine engineer working at W. H. Allen, Sons and Co, in Bedford.

The Bulletin wishes Eddie all the best and sends its thanks to Bedford Hospital, proving that the NHS works for everyone, young and old!
