Bedford Borough Council have announced that they are investing an additional £1m into the Roads and Pavements capital budget for 2021/22.

At the Full Council meeting on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, Mayor Dave Hodgson will be recommending that the council approves plans to transfer £1m to help finance further capital spending in improving the Borough’s roads and pavements.

The Roads and Pavements capital budget is for delivering more complete resurfacing of our roads and pavements.

The monies used for this capital budget increase were delivered from savings made in previous budgets.

Dave Hodgson, Mayor of Bedford Borough, said: “We’re continuing to invest heavily in our road and pavement networks in Bedford Borough and this additional funding will be used to deliver important works across the local area.

“Each winter our roads take a hammering from the weather conditions and we are committed to not just filling potholes, but doing full resurfacing of the roads and pavements in the worst condition.

“I know this is a priority for local residents and I will continue to make sure the council does even more to improve the state of our highways.

Deputy Leader on the Conservative group, Councillor Roger Rigby, commenting: “As ever we always welcome investment in the roads and pavements. However this money has largely come central Government and includes underspends of Covid grants.”
