State schools in Bedford Borough are set to receive an additional £16m or a 10% increase in funding for the next school year.

This extra money is part of the Government’s plan to ‘Build back Better’ and increases the government funding to £179m for the Borough’s schools.

This money can be used for hiring specialist teachers, providing training and purchasing school supplies.

It will also help specialist providers provide the right care and support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.

Conservative Cllr for Wootton, John Wheeler commented: “This is a welcome funding boost for our schools from the Conservative Government who are delivering their aim of levelling up across the country.

“Every pupil deserves an excellent education and every chance to fulfil their potential and I hope this extra funding will go some way into ensuring Bedford’s young people can thrive and succeed.

“This will help Bedford Borough hire more teachers, get more materials for pupils and provide additional support for pupils with special needs and disabilities.”
