A Bedford restaurant worker who was caught with indecent images of children was on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, ordered to carry out unpaid work and attend rehabilitation.

Junedur Rahman, 24, was arrested on June 15, 2020 when the police raided his family home, Luton Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor George Heimler said four devices were seized.

On a Samsung phone, a total of nine indecent images were found.

There were four at Category A, the most serious level, two at Category B, the medium level and three others which were classified as extreme pornography.

Most of the images involved children aged around 14, but one child was aged 10 to 12.

When questioned Rahman, who was aided in court by a Bengali interpreter, said he had no sexual interest in children.

Rahman, of Hawkins Road, Bedford, appeared for sentence having pleaded guilty in December to two charges of making (downloading) indecent images of children and one of possessing extreme pornography.

Defending, Richard Reynolds said Rahman was a man of previous good character who was capable of rehabilitation.

He said he had come to the UK aged 15. His English is “not good” and he appears young and naive for his age.

The court was told he works 24 hours a week in a restaurant kitchen, earning £800 a month.

Judge Gary Lucie passed a 12 month community order.

Rahman must carry out 35 Rehabilitation Days and complete 100 hours of unpaid work.

In addition he must abide by the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and register as a sex offender for five years.
