A gun has been seized along with significant amounts of ammunition, following a pre-planned operation in Luton by Bedfordshire Police on Thursday, July 28, 2022.

As part of an intelligence-led warrant in the Challney area of Luton, officers located the firearm – a handgun – along with approximately 50 rounds of ammunition. Investigators also found a quantity of heroin.

A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and possession of a class A drug, and was taken into custody for questioning.

Detective Superintendent Nick Skipworth, from Bedfordshire Police’s intelligence capability, said: “This is the latest result in our work to tackle organised crime in Bedfordshire and I am delighted that another weapon has been safely removed from the streets.

“Our enforcement activity was part of a planned warrant and demonstrates that dangerous weapons will not be tolerated. We will continue to look to apprehend those found in possession of them.

“Fortunately, gun crime in our county is very rare, however I would urge anyone who thinks they know someone in possession of a weapon to contact us right away.”

Anyone with any information about weapons or drug dealing is asked to report it via www.beds.police.uk, or by calling 101. Always call 999 in an emergency.
