Bedford Hospital Charity & Friends raise funds to support patients and staff at Bedford Hospital by providing equipment and improving facilities, to ensure the continued excellence of the provision of care in Bedford. Their latest ‘£1m appeal’ is currently raising money to create a brand new dedicated Paediatric A&E department and provide a dedicated state-of-the-art CT scanner to be situated in the A&E department for shared use by both emergency and general hospital patients.

HM Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire Helen Nellis said: “It was an honour to set the bikers off on their charity ride which started at Bedford and ended in Liverpool. These dedicated cyclists helped raise £97,000, some of which will be used to provide vital hospital equipment in Bedfordshire, which will improve the provision of care. My sincere thanks to Bedford Hospital Charity & Friends for working in partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities, and congratulations to the amazing cyclists for their incredible endurance and dedication to charity”

Ismail Anilmis DL said: “I am really proud of my team for giving their time and efforts to do their bit for charity and I want to thank everyone who supported and donated. I am so proud that we were able to help raise such a huge sum to support many more families. We look forward to continuing to support both charities in every way we can in the future.”

Ronald McDonald House Charities UK is an independent Charity, which operates 13 Houses across England, Wales, and Scotland, providing free ‘home away from home’ accommodation and support for families with children in hospital. They provide a place to sleep, cook and retain some sense of normal life; a lifeline for families at a very stressful time, especially when they are far from home. A Ronald McDonald House saves each family an average of £1,240 in out-of-pocket accommodation expenses.
