A paedophile who raped and sexual abused a young girl was jailed for a total of 19 years on Thursday, March 2, 2023.

Frank Mooney, 36, was arrested after the girl had sex education lessons at school in Borehamwood and told her teacher and mother.

Mooney, from Bletchley, Milton Keynes was told by Judge Richard Foster: “You abused her in the most horrific way.

You sexually abused her time and time and time again.”

Prosecutor Will Noble told St Albans Crown Court that the offences against the girl were over a protracted period of time.

On July 23, 2022, when he was on bail for the sex offences, he went to an address in Borehamwood where he forcefully pushed his way past a woman who told him he should leave.

Inside the house he brandished a knife. Mooney ran towards a man in the house and slammed him to the floor.

He punched him to the face and stomach and stabbed him twice. The knife broke when he stabbed the victim in the shoulder with the blade touching the bone. Mooney fled and the woman shouted for neighbours to call the police.

The victim was taken to hospital by air ambulance. The next day Mooney went to Borehamwood police station with his parents and gave himself up.

He told the police he was in a “low, dark place.” Mooney of The Elms, Bletchley, Milton Keynes appeared for sentence having been convicted by a jury of raping a child under 13, inciting her to engage in sexual activity and two charges of sexual assault.

He had pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, common assault and possessing a knife.

Defending, Mark Gadsden said Mooney maintains his innocent in the sexual offences case and is pursuing an appeal.

He said he was a man of previous good character. He said he could not explain why he attacked the man.

Judge Foster jailed him for a total of 19 years – 16 years for the sex offences and three more years for the assault case.

He must register as a sex offender for life, abide by the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and not contact the victims. The judge said he hoped the young girl would recover.
