On a chilly Saturday afternoon, the Causeway was filled with a bustling crowd of volunteers, armed with gloves, bags, and litter pickers.

The occasion was a community litter pick, organized by Cllr Valentine and Church Walk resident Lorna Ogle, with the aim of sprucing up the historic raised path that leads to All Saints church, that some believe goes back to Saxon times.

The turnout was impressive, with people of all ages joining in. Cllr Valentine, who had been keen to organize a litter pick for some time, was thrilled to see such a great response from the community.

“It’s fantastic to see so many people come out and show their support for the area” he said. “It really shows how much people care about the environment they live in.”

The volunteers worked tirelessly, scouring the Causeway, Ladies’ Walk and the fields around. Plastic bags, tins and bottles, and even an old umbrella were among the items that were collected.

Lorna Ogle, who has lived in the area for many years, was delighted to see so many people take part in the event. “It’s great to see people coming together to keep the area looking its best,” she said.

Sadly, even in this beauty spot there had been fly tipping and the Council was called to take away an old mattress and other items.

Cllr Valentine and Lorna Ogle are both keen to organize more community litter picks in the future and are hoping that this event will inspire others to get involved in local initiatives.

“We need to look after Kempston,” said Cllr Valentine. “Events like this show that we can make a real difference if we all work together.”
