A Luton man who attacked his former boyfriend and harassed at his work and home in St Albans was sentenced to six months on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

But as Vincent Flemons had spent 183 days in custody he was immediately released from Wormwood Scrubs prison.

Flemons, 49, of Clarendon Road, Luton had originally been charged with strangulation, but in February the prosecution at St Albans Crown Court accepted his guilty plea to common assault.

He appeared for sentence for that commons assault committed which was committed on June 6, 2022, harassing the victim between August 1 and August 29, 2022, assault by beating on August 27, criminal damage and assault by beating on August 29.

Prosecutor Joey Kwong said the two men had been in a relationship for a number of months. On June 6, Flemons had taken crystal meth when he grabbed the man by the throat in the bathroom and pinned him for 30 seconds against a shower door. He said: “I am going to kill you.”

The victim left the property and during August 2022 Flemons emailed, texted and phoned him constantly saying he wanted him back again and also that he owed him £3,000.

He turned up at the farm where the victim worked near St Albans and at the victim’s parents’ address where he was staying.

“He kicked the front door and said he wanted money and wanted to talk to him. Mr Flemons grabbed him by the arm and tried to pull him out. His mother shouted for the police to be called,” said Mr Kwong.

Two days later, on August 29, 2022, Flemons arrived at the farm and grabbed the victim by the shoulder and T-shirt. He suffered scratches to his collar bone and his neck chain was broken. Other workers intervened.

In a victim personal statement Flemons’ former boyfriend said he had been suffering with anxiety and depression and was on medication.

Gareth James, defending, said the maximum sentence the court could pass on the charges was six months in jail, which is less than the time Flemons has already served.

Judge Francis Sheridan made a five year restraining order banning him from contacting the vicim for five years, not to go to the victim’s address or workplace.

He sentenced him to six months saying “It is important that you are released today. You have served your time.”

Flemons thanked the judge.
