A Luton man caught with indecent images of children was given a suspended jail sentence on Friday, September 29, 2023.

Rajesh Joshi, 52, had stills and videos of children aged between eight and 14 on devices found at his home.

Prosecutor Jack Wright told Luton Crown Court that the police went to his home last year after his email and IP address had been linked to illegal sites.

Officers seized an iPhone 13, two laptops and a hard drive. They found 24 stills and 23 videos in Category A, the most serious level of child sex abuse images.

There were six stills and 17 videos at Category B and 37 stills and two videos at Category C.

He appeared for sentence having pleaded guilty to three charges of possessing indecent images of children. Grace Forbes, defending, said Joshi was separated from his family.

She asked for full credit for his guilty pleas. He had been shamed by what he had done.

Judge David Farrell KC told him: “You, for what can only be described as perverted sexual reasons, decided to view indecent images of children.

“Children are being abused to produce these images, which are viewed for perverted sexual gratification.

“You should be ashamed of yourself. You have suffered from what you have done. You are living apart from your family.”

But the judge said there was a realistic prospect of rehabilitation in his case and passed an eight month jail sentence suspended for two years.

Joshi must attend 40 probation sessions, ten rehabilitation days and be placed on an alcohol abstinence monitor for 90 days.

In addition he must carry out 100 hours’ unpaid work and pay the prosecution costs of £425.

He must also register as a sex offender and abide by a sexual harm prevention for ten years.

The judge told him: “I hope the criminal court never see you again.”
