Bedford Borough Council has announced that it has received £69,509.50 from the Department for Transport to support socially necessary bus services in the area.

Conservative Councillor Graeme Coombes commented: “We welcome this additional £69,0000 funding from Central Government that will support bus services for Bedford Borough residents.

“It is disappointing that the Mayor says one thing and does the other.

“At the recent Budget meeting, Conservative Councillors called for an additional £100,000 to be switched from the Communications Department to help the rural Bus Service and better support those that rely on these services, but the Mayor and his Lib Dem colleagues refused to support this idea.”

This funding will go towards ensuring that residents of Bedford have access to reliable and affordable public transportation options.
