On Saturday, March 9, 2024, the Bedfordshire Festival of Music, Speech and Drama culminated in a spectacular gala concert where the most outstanding performers from across the 8-day event gathered to compete for the overall Festival prizes for Speech and Drama, Music, Piano, Senior and Junior Singing and Choral Singing.
Over the course of the week, the Festival saw over 1500 musicians and actors of all ages and abilities perform in over 250 competitive classes, covering most musical instruments and genres as well as many varied Speech and Drama disciplines.
The expert adjudicators who assessed the work over the week selected their top winners from the Festival to go forward to the final Gala Concert where the best work would be showcased and the performers would compete for the major prizes.
A wide variety of the county’s schools were represented at the event and the final winners for each category were:
Best overall Junior Speech and Drama – Adi Tambe
Best overall Senior Speech and Drama – Charlie Eggleton
Best overall Senior Singing – Breege Traynor
Best overall Junior Singing – Zuzanna Jankowska
Best overall Choir – Bel Canto, Bedford Girls’ School
Best overall Music prize – Bel Canto, Bedford Girls’ School
Best overall Piano – Felipe Klepin-Salles
Most outstanding Speech and Drama performance – Charlie Eggleton
Most outstanding Musical performance – Felipe Klepin-Salles
Although competitive in nature, the Festival is an annual celebration of the talent that can be found in Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas and gives young and old alike the chance to share their passion for the performing arts.
