For the Easter break, Bedford Borough Council will continue to provide supermarket vouchers to thousands of families who are entitled to income related free school meals.

Over 7,000 children in the Borough will benefit as £15 vouchers, funded through the Household Support Fund, will be issued for each week of the school holiday period.

Councillor Graeme Coombes, Portfolio Holder for Finance, Risk and Welfare, said: “I am delighted that the Government has extended this scheme to enable vulnerable families to receive supermarket vouchers to help them with the costs of feeding their children over the school Easter holidays.

“We remain dedicated to assisting families during the upcoming break by providing supermarket vouchers to those entitled to income-related free school meals. If you believe you qualify for this support, we encourage you to visit the council website to submit your application.”

The Council and Bedford Borough schools are encouraging more families to register and apply for free school meals, so that they begin to receive the support they need.
